Q: What is a PDF File?
A: PDF is an acronym for Portable Document Format. The format was originally
developed by Adobe Systems in the early 1990's, and is now a standard format for distributing documents, including
electronic books or eBooks, such as our very own SelfGeek Manifesto! (Every special report and manual that we
produce here at SelfGeek.com is delivered in PDF format.)
Once you have downloaded the file to your computer (the desktop is a good place to put it initially - file it
away after the initial viewing), you should be able to double-click the file. If a PDF Reader is installed on
your computer, it should open up and you can read it like any other document.
If you get an error message indicating the computer does not know how to download the file, you need to install
a PDF reader! Here at SelfGeek, we recommend two PDF readers. Adobe Acrobat Reader is the original
PDF reader application. It is the most compatible, and it has the brand name of Adobe on it, but it is also a
larger application, requiring more system resources and RAM than other options. Foxit Reader is a smaller,
faster launching alternative to Acrobat Reader. If you are the type that doesn't mind sacrificing "name
brand" for an increase in speed, give Foxit Reader a try. (In fact, you can install them both if you
want...)
Click one of the icons below to go to the download website for these two programs. Once you have the
reader installed, try double-clicking your PDF document again and you'll be off to the races!
