Q: I receive the message: The remote computer disconnected the session because of an error in the licensing protocol?

A: Your Terminal Services CAL (Client Access License) has become corrupted on your local machine. Follow these steps:

  1. Start -> Run -> Regedit
  2. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  3. Expand Software
  4. Expand Microsoft
  5. Right-click on MSLicensing, then choose DELETE
  6. Confirm YES
  7. Quit Registry Editor
  8. If you have Windows XP or earlier, go to step 10
  9. For Windows Vista, Left Click> Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> Remote Desktop Connection --> Run As Administrator
  10. Attempt to attach to the remote computer again
