Q: Is My Hard Drive Going Bad?

Bookmark and Share

A: If you suspect your hard drive might be starting to go bad, or are getting disk errors, you should first back up your data.  Do NOT proceed until you are sure you have a good backup!  Once a hard drive starts to go bad, things can progress quickly.

Next, download a program called HDTune - Free Edition.  Run through the installation routine taking all the defaults, and run the program.   It will tell you if you have any problems with your drive.
