Q: How Can I Uninstall My Anti-Virus Software?

Bookmark and Share

A:  You should only have one anti-virus software installed at any given time, but often people are unsure how to get rid of the program they currently have and install AVG or Microsoft Security Essentials.

Fortunately this is a big enough support problem for companies such as McAfee and Norton that they have created removal tools to help.  The usual steps are to run the removal tool, then reboot your computer and install the new Anti-Virus software.

Here are links to the McAfee Removal Tool and Norton Removal Tool.  If you have another program, just go to Google and type it in with "removal tool" and Google will likely find the right uninstaller for you.

Here is also a link to the AVG Removal Tool - although I like AVG, sometimes it gets corrupt and the only way to fix it is to run the removal tool, reboot, and then download and install the lastest version.

Finally, here are links to AVG Free Edition and Microsoft Security Essentials, so you can quickly get a good anti-virus installed and protecting your machine after you get rid of the old one. (Remember, choose one or the other but not both!)
