Q: Can I Upgrade to Windows 7?

Bookmark and Share

A: If your computer is running Windows XP or Windows Vista now, the answer is almost assuredly, yes. You may however require an upgrade to your RAM or video card for optimum performance.  The reason for your question is most likely because you recall the nightmare that upgrading from Windows XP to Vista was.  There were many problems with hardware incompatibilities and missing device drivers.  Microsoft is committed to avoiding another situation like that one.

Also, for the first time in history, Microsoft is releasing an operating system that will have a smaller memory footprint that it's predecessor!  Windows 7 is faster than Vista and Windows XP.

One caution - as always I will strongly recommend that you do not ACTUALLY "upgrade" to Windows 7.  You will want to back up your data and do a FRESH install of Windows 7.  I promise you will regret it if you ignore this advice - fresh installs are ALWAYS better than upgrades.

Microsoft has also released the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, which will scan your machine and help you determine if your hardware will work with Windows 7.  You can watch this video for more information:
